Potty Training your Dog
Potty training your dog should start as early as possible while he has not yet caught up on bad habits like urinating anywhere he likes.
If you are bringing home a puppy then you are lucky because there are better chances of potty training your dog at this age. However, do not expect a puppy to immediately learn how to control his bladder in a few weeks because you will only get frustrated.
Your task in potty training your dog is to take him to the specific areas where you want him to do his thing. But when he commits a mistake do not shout at him or hurt him because he will not learn from this. The best way to deal with accidents is to just wipe the urine or poop immediately and then continue potty training your dog.
Here are a few important tips to remember if you want to succeed in potty training your dog:
•Try using newspapers while on the training process to protect your house from dog urine. Potty training a dog can be done in various ways like taking him inside the house but confining him in a room or a small space with newspapers until he learns how to do his thing properly.
•Always remember the times when your dog has to urinate or defecate to avoid accidents. One way of potty training your dog is by taking him out at specific periods to enable him to associate urinating and defecating with going out. Potty training a dog especially puppies can be easy if you know the times when they are expected to urinate.
•If you have puppies then take special notice of their irregular potty habits. Puppies need to urinate often because their bladders could not hold out their urine for longer periods. Take out your dog the moment he wakes up or a few minutes after he finishes his meal.
•Be vigilant of your dog’s actions as they might indicate a desire to urinate. Watch for other signs that your dog wants to urinate or defecate like irregular barking, sniffing or circling the floor.
•Always give a reward when your dog successfully does his thing right. When your dog is successful in giving you a signal that he wants to go out to urinate or if he is successful in doing his thing in the proper area then reward him for it.
•Consistency is the key. It may take a lot of effort on your part but being consistent will help a lot in potty training your dog. Training your dog today and then allowing him to urinate on the rug the next day will not teach him to urinate in the proper area.
Success in potty training your dog can be so sweet after you have tried your best and sacrificed a little of your time in potty training him.

If You Want An Unusual Looking Dog Than The Chinese Crested May Be For You
When it comes to unusual dogs, the Chinese Crested is probably one of the most unusual you will see as it almost looks like a tiny pony. This dog originates from Africa where it is called the “African Hairless Terrier” and were often used as ratters on board the trading ships. this strange looking greed is becoming quite popular and we’re seeing it more and more in rare breed dog shows.
Part of the toy group, the Chinese Crested was first registered to the American kennel club (AKC) in 1991. According to breed standards, this dog must not weigh more than 10 pounds and stands about 12 inches tall. The breed actually has two varieties – one which is hairlesss except for the feet, head and tail and another variety which is referred to as the powder puff and has a long soft coat that resembles hair. the dog has use that stand erect, dark eyes and a long muzzle on a broad skull. Pretty much every color is allowed and they can be either solid, spotted or mixed.
The Chinese Crested is a dog that needs to be with his family and can become very attached to his owner. If you have a lot of time to spend with your pet, though, he is an excellent dog and is very cuddly, playful and sweet. These dogs are very intelligent and alert and can perform many tricks. They are good with other paths and do not bark a lot unlike many other toy dogs. be forewarned, however, that they do like to dig holes and climb.
Because of the hairless nature of the dogs the skin does require special care to prevent skin problems. in fact, their skin should be treated almost like human skin and they will need to have sunscreen put on if they are going to be outdoors in the sun or they will get a sunburn! They also can have problems with their teeth like a lot of other small dogs and you should get in the habit of brushing them every couple of days. these dogs me as much food as you give them, so you should take care not to overfeed them or they will become obese.
The Chinese crested does not need excessive exercise in where it does not bark much it can be a great dog for Apartment living. That being said, like all dogs this dog will need to be taken out for walks and get daily exercise. For cold climates, some sort of sweater or coat will be needed outdoors and if you keep your house cool may be needed indoors as well.
The hairless version of the Chinese Crested doesn’t really need it much grooming as it doesn’t have any hair. you will find a stock to be very clean with no doggy smell, fleas or texts. The powder puff version should be brushed daily. You can be a hairlesss frequently and you may even want to massage some oil or cream into his skin. This dog does not shed much.

Does Your Dog Get The Right Amount Of Exercise?
For most people, exercising a dog consists of a trip to the park for a run around. In some cases this might suffice, but responsible owners should be aware of the quantity and quality of exercise that their dog needs to maintain optimum health. Ask yourself the following questions.
1) How often does your dog get exercised?
It does not take a genius to work out that you put on weight if you do not burn off the calories that you ingest. Exercise is extremely important to the health and well being of your dog. Fit dogs are happier, more active, more mobile and less susceptible to health problems such as arthritis, ligament ruptures and heart disease. With such huge individual variation between breeds and ages, we cannot recommend a set amount of exercise that each dog should have, but all dogs require at least one walk a day, with the more athletic ones requiring two.
2) What type of exercise does your dog do?
Whilst a walk or two a day may be perfectly adequate exercise for your dog, there is huge benefit to be had from mixing it up a bit and trying out new activities. Adding variety to a dogs exercise routine provides extra physical and mental challenges that can be both interesting and rewarding for both dog and owner. If your dog has any medical conditions (e.g. heart problem, arthritis) you must consult a veterinary professional before adding any unfamiliar exercises. Here we look at various types of exercise possible.
- Walking & Hiking
The most common form of exercise for dogs. Always have your dog on a lead unless you are in a park or rural area without traffic. Beware the potential existence of other dogs in public places that may be irresponsibly raised and show aggression to your pooch.
- Jogging
Getting your dog to run alongside you and adjust to fluctuations in your speed will require a little training, but if you are a keen jogger it is a great way of exercising your dog. Make sure you choose a pace that is comfortable for your dog, and only attempt jogging if you and your dog are able to walk briskly for 30 minutes without tiring.
- Cycling
This is fantastic if you have access to the countryside where your dog can run safely off the lead. Also great for athletic dogs that need to run greater distances than you do to achieve a proper workout. If you wish to cycle with your dog in urban areas, he or she must have impeccable lead manners and ideally respond to commands such as left and right. Cycling early in the morning when there is less traffic is wise, and avoid busy roads.
- Inline skating
Skating, like cycling, means athletic dogs often get the chance to run to their hearts content. However, since you cannot go on grass and are concrete bound, it is only really suitable with a dog in a park, where you do not have the worry of traffic. Your dog should be taught commands such as slow and stop, and only let off the lead if he or she is ultra obedient. Using a harness rather than a lead affords greater control in this exercise.
- Jump & fetch
Getting your dog to jump and fetch a ball can provide hours of entertainment and is excellent exercise. Make sure the ball is not small enough to be accidentally swallowed. Also synthetic toys such as balls are far safer than sticks, which can fragment in the dogs mouth and get stuck in their throat.
- Frisbee
Playing frisbee is great fun for some dogs, but you need to have a large garden or a park nearby where your dog can run freely off the lead. This is great for the lazy person as you are pretty much stationary while your dog has a full workout. Clearly not all dogs are willing or able to catch the frisbee, so only those breeds that pick up the knack are suitable. Playing frisbee should be avoided in dogs with teeth or mouth problems, and also in dogs with joint problems and those susceptible to cruciate ligament damage.
- Circuit & agility
Those familiar with obedience competitions will be well aware of the fun and satisfaction to be had doing this activity. You and your dog run around a series of obstacles, aiming to pass through each without a problem. Courses often consist of bar jumps (hurdles of varying heights according to the breed), a tunnel (usually about 3 feet long), a ramp and a slalom (5 or more bars in a row). The key when starting out is to reward your dog enthusiastically for doing each obstacle with treats. You should lead him through the obstacle course, teaching him to respond to instructions such as Up!, and body language, for example the outstretched palm of your hand meaning Stop!
- Swimming
Swimming is one of the best exercises there is for both you and your dog, as you are using every muscle in the body. If you are lucky enough to have somewhere where you and your dog are both permitted to swim, and is also safe, then this is a highly beneficial activity. If you are swimming in the sea, make sure a lifeguard is around just in case, and be aware that cold water and current both increase the effort required as more calories are burned. Swimming is particularly beneficial for dogs with arthritis and other joint problems as it builds muscular strength without placing strain on the joints.
- Football
Start the game by kicking the ball slowly along the ground towards your dog, and encourage him to get it. Because the ball is too large to pick up in his or her mouth, it will take him or her some time to realize that it must be pushed with either the nose or the paws. Give praise and encouragement as he or she gets the hang of it. Small breeds can be offered a smaller rubber ball rather than a football. Make sure the ball is not small enough to be swallowed though.

You’ve also got to keep a close watch on fleas because they can really cause problems. You certainly don’t want your dog to suffer needlessly.
Make sure you keep your pet current with his innoculations and take him to the vet for periodic checkups.
If you can keep tartar from growing around your dog’s teeth, that would be best. However, if you’re not prepared to do that, be sure his gums aren’t infected with tartar that has gotten out of control. You’ll need to take him to the vet for teeth cleaning if you aren’t prepared to keep his teeth free of tartar deposits by regularly brushing them.
Brush your dog’s hair on a regular basis, especially if he is one of the long-haired varieties — like collies or shelties. While you’re brushing his coat, be on the lookout for skin growths or rashes that need medical care. The time you spend brushing his coat can be a special time of closeness between you and your dog.
Be careful not to give your canine buddy chicken bones which can easily splinter and get caught in his throat. In fact, don’t give small bones to him at all because of the danger of splintering with resulting internal cuts.
Be sure that your dog always has a fresh full bowl of water — especially during the hot summer months.
Choose a good brand of nourishing dog food instead of inferior brands. Don’t let him become overweight because that is a health hazard — just like in humans.
Be on the alert for symptoms that may show that your dog is in pain. If your dog refuses to eat, you need to take him to a vetinarian to see what’s the matter.
Older dogs often develop arthritis and there are special supplements that can be given to them that can help. Be sure to check with your vetinarian to see what treatment option would be best.
Be aware of where 24-hour emergency care is located. That way you’ll be prepared in case your dog needs immediate medical attention on a weekend or evening when the vet has gone home.

Shamoo for my dog with skin problems?
my dad’s dog is a pekingese… and she has major skin problems…she chews her hair off, has dry skin and it has now moved from her back to her paws and ears and she is like ripping herself apart…my parent’s have tried olive oil shampoo, baby shampoo, shampoo from the vet and it is just getting worse…are there any shampoo’s that have like no perfume or dye’s or anything…that we can get at like Walmart or like Pet-Smart or maybe online?? or maybe it just has nothing to do with this..anyone can relate? The vet said there is like nothing to do…these pills for itch he gave didn’t help either… we are all dumb struck…..
he has tried Oatmeal shampoo, i think he is going to take her to another vet if he can’t find a good shampoo
she gets many baths maybe 2 or 3 a week…she chews so much that she smells…
she eats Pedigree healthy balance i think… it has veggies and crap in it

My dog had the same thing.. one of my cats does as well… i used a oatmeal based shampoo and then a hypo allergenic moisturizer to soothe their skin.
This is a good hypo allergenic shampoo to use.. i think you have to buy it online though.

Are Pomeranians supposed to have so many medical problems?
I own a Pomeranian and he is always sneezing, coughing, and stretching his leg as if he’s popping a bone back into a socket. Is this normal for this breed of dog?
Well-bred dogs won’t have nearly as many problems as a carelessly bred dog. That’s why it’s very important that breeders only breed dogs that have genetic health test clearances.
If your dog is sneezing and coughing, you ought to get that checked out. Does the vet know about his leg? Does it hurt him?
Why do people ask non-vet strangers about serious dog health questions?
If their dog seems to be dieing, why dont they go straight to the vet?
They sit on their freaking computer asking us when we cant even see or examine the dogs.
Theire ‘beloved’ pet is dieing, and if its serius, there often isnt a home remedy.

This will only work if you practise what you are taught every day, you cannot expect to learn a lot in six lessons. Do not pay for six lessons in advance, as he may use rough methods which you will object to.
