Anyone have a suggestion for my dogs skin problems?
I have a 9yr old male shiba inu. He has seen several vets in regards to his problems. Several area’s such as feet, around eyes, stomach and rectum, are irritated and losing hair. He constantly licks and scratches I feel for him but have not received a solution. What is causing this?
Ask your vet for a referral to a Veterinary Dermatologist. Allergies would be the first thing that comes to mind. But there can be other reasons for it. It’s time to get a specialist involved. Specialists have more knowledge than a regular vet.
my dog’s breath smells like ass. do they have doggy mints or could this be a medical problem?
My dog is 5 and weighs about 8 pounds (bichon/ small breed) but has the worst breath any suggestions???
He could have halitosis form needing his teeth cleaned, this is very common in small breed dogs. Diabetes will cause bad breath (I’m not saying your dog has that problem at all, other symptoms would be involved, i.e. excessive water intake ETC…). If you have a cat or there are cats in the neighborhood he could be sampling the "kitty roca", they love cat poo!
Is a Cavachon a good dog and what are health concerns?
I am thinking of getting a Cavachon (Bichon Frise and Cavalier Kings Charles Spaniel mix). It looks like a really cute dog but what are the health concerns? I would prefer is you owned one. But if you didnt and looked online i guess thats okay too. Also if you have any other additional imformation about them.
I am sure it is a great dog if you are adopting it from a shelter. It is a mutt and therefore there is no way to predict. Do not pay money for a mutt from a breeder when there are thousands that need homes in shelters
do dogs like or dislike the sound of the dog training clicker?
i bought a dog training clicker for my grandma, thinking that is might resolve the problem of her two yorkies fighting…. do you think it will work?
It depends on how you train the dog. Some people use the sound as a reward when the dog is behaving or does a trick right. Others, like me, use it as a naughty sound. When the dog does something bad, scold him/her and click the clicker loudly 3 or 4 times. Works both ways very well.

I’m not talking about breeding and showing, or what you do for work (if you’re employed in the animal industry, including shelter workers). I’m talking about what you’ve done above and beyond, to contribute either to your breed or to dogs in general.

well i don’t feel I’ve done much just my local club – vice pres, equipment chair, prize chair, site liaison, box operator ……
followed up ads in paper and other potential breed rescue situation (but the entire fancy has such a ‘catch dog in need’ reflex that this is NOT anything exceptional)
Gene banked a chronically ill dog before his death – if ongoing research in other breeds comes up with a genetic screening test there will be a need for affected animal in my breed and maybe he can still contribute

Dog peeing on the bed?? Medical problem or just being naughty?
My dog jumped on my sisters bed and just peed. She has done this once before a while back in my parents bed. Is it a medical problem or just being naughty? She is five or six years old. She is a whippet greyhound.
We let her out a lot. Like two or three times an hour. I would say. The first time she did this we just got our yorkie. But that was like two years ago. And today she did it again. Our yorkie or greyhound aren’t allowed on the beds or anything.
The thing is…your dog really, really hates your sister.
Peeing in her bed was just your dog’s way of making the hatred public.
Are rawhide bones bad for a dog’s health?
I purchased a package of large rawhide bones at Costco last week. My 9 mo old German Shepherd really likes chewing on the one he focused on so far. I guess he ingests some of it. Are they bad for a dogs health?. My brother is telling me they are.
Rawhides aren’t digestible and are responsible for a number of intestinal blockages every year. Some requiring surgery.
Plus they are sold as being good for your dogs teeth, but in reality they aren’t. They leave a plaque forming film on the dogs teeth.
Add to that, that many of these products are treated with some pretty nasty chemicals.
Toss the rawhides, go with bully sticks, stuffed kongs, or even some raw meaty bones for chewies. My two LOVE chicken feet to chew on. Good for the teeth, fully digestible, and contain glucosomine.
Is it true that some treats work better than others when training a dog?
I’ve made progress with my dog training this evening. I got him to lay down. Twice. And he is finally going outside when I tell him to instead of pouncing on me. Yes!
Anyways, I’ve read (or maybe seen on a show) once that strips of meat work better when training a dog than biscuits. Is this true?

Sure, dogs have food preferences. One of my dogs will do anything for peanuts or peanut butter in a Kong; the other one can take it or leave it. The other one loves cheese.
The best ones I’ve found are cut up wieners.
Pieces of cheese.
Begging strips (I break it into smaller pieces) they have a strong smell that gets the dogs attention.
If I’m doing allot of training I just use the dry dog food that I would give the dog as her breakfast. I measure out what she would get into a plastic bag or the pouch I clip on my waist that is made for dog training and use that.
I’ve even used cold pizza.
I think my older dog would do cartwheels for strips of meat.
Dog Training Collar Supplements Voice Commands
All dogs will need some training as without training, a dog will be a dog and do what dogs typically do. A dog training collar can help reinforce commands and signals and help the dog not only alter its natural behavior but also learn what the owner wants it to do.

Some dog owners and professional trainers are using electric dog training collars as part of a training regimen to help the dog learn new tricks, and not just to stay off the furniture and not to jump up on people. Usually if you slap your leg and tell the dog to come, you will probably get a dumb look. If you tell him to come and he gets a slight unpleasant shock, he may listen a little better.
If you are using a radio fence containment system you must make sure it is installed correctly and there is no threat of serious injury to your pet. Keep in mind that once your dog when wearing its dog training collar knows where its boundaries are even if you shut off the power to the underground fence, the dog will be reluctant to cross that line, even at your urging.
You should also keep in mind that a dog training collar is not something the dog needs to wear its entire life. Once their behavior can be changed by the issuance of verbal commands, the collar has done its job.
