Breeders – what have YOU done?
Posting again, as poor response last time.
This is for anyone that has bred their dog(s), whether they consider themselves to be a "breeder" ro not.
Looking over the past year, how have you contributed to dogs?
I’m not talking about breeding and showing, or what you do for work (if you’re employed in the animal industry, including shelter workers). I’m talking about what you’ve done above and beyond, to contribute either to your breed or to dogs in general.
For example, in the past year I’ve done the following:
For my breed:
Fostered a rescue
Donated to my local rescue
Edited and produced our club’s magazine
Donated to the parent club’s health research fund
For dogs in general:
Contributed to the Wendy Willard defence fund

(although the dogs in question are Basset Hounds, this case could set a precedent that could affect all dog breeders, especially those with hunting dogs).
Donated to the CKC Foundation

What have YOU done to give back to the animals/hobby/sport that you love?
well i don’t feel I’ve done much just my local club – vice pres, equipment chair, prize chair, site liaison, box operator ……
followed up ads in paper and other potential breed rescue situation (but the entire fancy has such a ‘catch dog in need’ reflex that this is NOT anything exceptional)
Gene banked a chronically ill dog before his death – if ongoing research in other breeds comes up with a genetic screening test there will be a need for affected animal in my breed and maybe he can still contribute
PS thaks for the WW defense -this is an important one
I do not breed, but I do rescue and I have maintained a rescue Organization in my county as well as fostered animals myself.I have also helped a dam during whelping, but I did not do the breeding. Someone else did that and then deserted her. I help set guidelines for our animal shelter and help to see that the guidelines are enforced. We work together in our county and have tried to set a standard for Animal Shelters. We see very few euthanized sine the rescue groups have been working to change county laws and working with the Animal Shelter.
We are still working on our needs and desires for the county, but we have come a very long way. Cats are being helped as well. They are no longer euthanized as soon as they are brought in, since we managed to get funds allocated and held fund raisers to build a new Animal Shelter. I hope we can start to work on the next county over soon.
Good question.

@ Show Breeders sell…: I think it is a way to encourage others to do things… what’s the matter, nothing to boast about?
Since I rent right now, I’m not allowed to foster… so I support my breed rescue in other ways such as offering free training, free grooming (I’m a wiz at grooming), I also donate some $$ and I purchase my collars from the rescue (White Pine donates the collars to the rescue and I buy only from the rescue)… I also tend to purchase things like printed clothing and calendars from them that I wouldn’t bother with otherwise. (my daughter is getting 2 new "dog" shirts for Christmas – Double bonus from my perspective – I get to fill a Christmas gift and the rescue makes money).
I think though, probably the biggest thing I do for the breed is simply by being there to mentor newbies… and there for the oldtimers to vent at when frustrated… and there as an ear when someone simply needs to talk something "dog" related out.

I do not breed but I buy all of my dog food from my local humane society because I figure if someone is going to make a few bucks off each bag, why not them. Also, they stock Evo and Wellness and other great foods so I can do all my shopping in one place.
I also donate things that they need…our shelter lists a current list in the front office of things they are running out of so I do that often.
