You can set up training games to change your dogs emotional response from fear or arousal to calm friendliness using counter conditioning. Watch this video to check out what you can do. ——– Another thing you can do to speed up the process, is to leave these scary items around in your house for the dog to habituate to and investigate. You can also wear them. If your dog is fearful of people with gloves, wear gloves when you watch TV in the evening every once in a while. Put on a different scary item before you put down your dogs dinner bowl. ——- If at any point the dog were to become reactive, simply say ‘let’s go’ to the dog, and when the dog has stopped reacting you …

What To Know About Dog Barking Problems
Posted by admin on May 6, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Barking is normal and usual for dogs. You can’t do anything to stop it. However, this is not a satisfactory explanation for furious neighbors. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to turn down your dog’s loud barking. First, you have to know the real cause of its excessive barking. Some dog owners think that dogs are only showing aggressiveness or rebellion whenever they bark. However, this is not really the case. Dog barking problems arise because of a lot of reasons.
One of these is communication. There are times when a dog barks because it wants other dogs to know its identity and where its location is. That is why it communicates with them through barking. Sometimes, it also wants to alert its owners about someone or something. So, it growls and barks. And this is what you call alert or territorial barking.
Then, dog barking problems may also be due to lack of attention. A lot of dogs bark because they want their owners to notice and play with them. Sometimes, they even want other people such as neighbors, delivery persons, mail carriers and children to notice them. This is because more often than not, dog owners tend to be very busy with their work that is why they do not have enough time to spend with their pets.
Another possible cause of dog barking problems are boredom, anxiety, stress, and asking for basic needs. These causes may be closely identified with lack of attention because the dog also barks to get noticed and be showered with affection. Well, when a dog gets separated from its owner or if it is frequently left alone in the house, it experiences anxiety and longing. It also becomes stressed or bored.
However, it may also be undergoing pain or sickness that is why it is stressed. So, the best thing that you can do in these kinds of situation is to bring your dog to a licensed veterinarian for a check-up. It may need medication or theraphy.
On the other hand, your dog may be barking loudly because it is its way of asking for basic needs. So, if you do not give its needs immediately, this could result in dog barking problems. You must realize that your dog needs to be fed at specific hours of the day, and it also needs to be walked regularly. It also needs to play and be hugged. And it also needs to be cleaned. In addition, your dog needs to be pampered once in a while. Then again, your dog may only be excited to play that is why it barks. In this case, you must play with it and give it a treat.
Nonetheless, you must also teach your dog how to behave. You must train it to be quiet by using tried and tested methods. You can consult a veterinarian or a dog trainer, but you can also buy books and manuals about dog training. In any case, you must train it with non-harmful aids. The right training generally solves most of the dog barking problems.
